Sand Foot Prints

Materials

Plaster of Paris
Small bucket
Freshwater
wire

  1. Decide where to make your sand footprints. You can use a sandbox, or a deep box filled with sand.  If you are at the beach, the damp, hard-packed sand near the water's edge works best.
  2. If the sand is dry, add water to make sure that it is firm and will hold the shape.
  3. Make the footprints in the sand by pressing down hard with both feet.  The impressions should be at least a 1/2 inch or 1.5 cm deep.
  4. Mix up the plaster, according to the directions on the package.  You can use fresh or salt water if your at the beach.  It should have a thick, creamy consistency.
  5. Pour the wet plaster slowly into the footprints.
  6. Cut the wire into 2 inch or 5 cm pieces.  bend in the middle to create a hanger.
  7. As the plaster begins to harden, push the hanger into the plaster.
  8. After 20 to 25 minutes, gently dig the footprints out of the molds and brush away any excess sand.
  9. Turn them over and leave them to dry for at least one hour.
