colored thread (like the thread for friendship bracelets)
silk flowers
wooden bead or a doll head
pipe cleaners
scissors
Shape the body for the fairy doll
Fold the pipe cleaner in half as shown in step A.
Create a leg on each side of the fold about 2 cm or less than 1 inch long.
The foot to the underarm should be about5 cm or 2 inches
long. The arms are about 2.5 cm or 1 inch long.
Make the Fairy Doll
Pick the thread color for your fairy’s shoes. Using a piece 30 cm or 12 inches, start just above the toe and wrap the thread around one side of the pipe cleaner until you get around the foot. Then wrap the thread around both pieces of the pipe cleaner to create the foot. Repeat for other foot. See
picture.
The thread should be tightly wrapped and side by side so that none of the pipe cleaner shows.
Hint for making hands and feet:
Start by wrapping the thread around one side of the foot, until you get around the
toe. Then press the two sides of the pipe cleaner together and wrap around both
pieces to finish the foot.
Hands are done the same as feet, but use the body color for thread. The feet have
shoes on.
Pick the thread color for the body. Start from the top of the foot and wrap around both pieces of the pipe cleaner to create the rest of the leg. When you get to the waist run the thread down the other leg, and start winding it up the leg.
When you reach the waist, wind it around both pieces of the body until you reach the arms.
Run the thread out to the wrist, and wrap around one part of the pipe cleaner until you get around the fingers. Then wrap the thread around both pieces as you work you way back up the arm. Repeat for other arm.
Wrap the thread around the neck to finish the body.
Hint: Starting and ending threads can be hidden under the top
layer of thread. There is no need to tie off most of the threads. Just be sure to glue down the last piece.
Dress your Fairy Doll
Pick the flowers you want to use for a skirt, top, wings (optional) and hat.
Take the flower apart so that you have the different petal
sections. Most silk flowers just pull apart, but some are
glued.
Start by carefully fitting the skirt flower over the legs. You may need to cut a slit in the flower center to make it large enough to fit the legs through.
Put the top over the neck and use a small piece of thread to tie it under the arms.
Finish your Fairy Doll
Put some glue on the neck and push the wooden bead or doll head on.
Draw on features for a face if you want.
Put some glue on the top of the head and add the hat.
Ideas
Wings can be glued on the back or even put over the neck hole if you have a flower with two petals.
Just be sure to add the wings before you put the head on!
Cut wool pieces the same length, and glue onto the doll head as hair.
If you are having trouble with the thread, you can skip those steps and make the doll from pipe cleaners and flowers.
