Materials

white paper plates
plastic lace, fishing line, or strong thread
craft sticks
markers
glue
scissors

Directions for how children can make a Paper Plate Skeleton

Print off the patterns for the bones.
Cut out the patterns for the bones.
Trace the patterns on the paper following the layouts shown. Cut out the bones. Be sure to extend cutting lines to the edge of the plate even if the bone is a bit short.
Draw a face on the skull and cut out the eyes if you want. Reverse the back of the skull and put glue along the top and bottom edges to past the two pieces together.
Glue the tops and bottoms of all the bones together putting the glue along the outside edges.
Glue the hands to the bottom arm bones and the feet to the bottom leg bones.
Glue the top arm bones to the collar bone.
Make holes where shown on the patterns for bones that haven’t been glued to another bone.
Use 20 cm or 8 inches of plastic lace to tie together the collar to the ribs, the 2 arm bones and the 2 leg bones.
Use 30 cm or 12 inches to tie together the legs to the hips, the hips to the ribs, and the collar to the skull bone.
Use the rest of the lace to create a loop for to hang the skeleton.

Hints

If you have a one hole punch, you can use it to make the holes. Otherwise, use the point of scissors or a pencil.
Don’t cut the holes until you are ready to tie together the glued bones.
