Clay Eggs

Make your own modeling dough, or you can use colored clay.  Have the kids use a rolling pin to roll it out a white piece on a flat surface.  Use an oval cookie cut (or reshape a tuna fish can) to make the Easter egg shapes.  Then let the kids decorate the eggs with different colors of modeling dough.  They can make stripes, zigzags, or dots.  Don't forget to make a whole in the top, so that you can hang your Easter decoration around the house.

Butterfly made from colored egg shellsArt from Egg Shells

What do you do with all the colored egg shells after Easter?  Your kids have worked hard to create these beautiful colors, they want to keep them.

One childrens craft idea is to break the shells into small pieces.  Then the kids can use them like mosaic tiles to decorate pictures.  They can make pictures using the shell pieces on butterfly wings, sails for boats, petals for flowers, walls on houses, wings on a bird or just about anything.

Have the children draw their picture with a pencil or marker.  Spread glue in the area to color using the pieces of Easter egg shell. Fill the glue section with shell pieces and let dry.

Easter Bunny with Easter Eggs

Puffy Bunny

Here's an idea from one of our visitors, KIM BERKMYRE (Creative Childcare).

Sounds like a lot of fun, but could be a bit messy.

  • Cut out a bunny shape.
  • Mix together 1/4 cup glue and 1 cup shaving cream.
  • Add some food coloring if you want.
  • Have the children spread it onto the bunny.

When it dries it stays puffy!!  Makes enough for 4 children.
