Personal Pizzas

Use the individual size pizza crusts.  Put out bowls with different toppings (cheese, sauce, pepperoni, mushrooms, tomato, peppers), and let each child make their own pizza.  Be sure you know whose pizza is where when you put them in the oven.

Animal Game

Before the party, cut pictures of animals out of old nature magazines.  Try to use the pictures on the covers, because they are sturdier. Then pin a picture with a safety pin to the back of each kid's T-shirt. They all can ask each other yes or no questions, like "Do I swim in the ocean?," "Do I have feathers?" or "Do I live in the jungle?" until they figure out which animal are they. It was a wonderful ice-breaker too, if some of the kids don't know each other before the party. Very fun, and something all the kids could easily participate in.

You can also play this game with older kids using pictures of rock stars or movie stars.

A Great Ice Breaker and Fun for the KIDS

One idea that worked out beautifully for my daughter's 5th birthday was to have a arts and craft table when the guest arrived. The arts and crafts table was a great ice breaker for the kids and parents. The girls decorated their princess hats and the boys decorated their crowns. We had stickers, crayons, colored pencils, glitter pens (that didn't work so great - too messy), and ribbon. We also had the kids decorate their goody bags. Brown or white paper sacks work great as party bags. We had a piñata and the kids put their candy and small toys in their decorated party bags.

Build your own Maze

When I was going to have a large group of mostly boys age 10, and a couple girls.  My husband and I went to a appliance store and asked for some of their big huge boxes that the refrigerators come in, got them home and made a giant maze in our backyard.  If you don't have room in your yard the local park or recreation centers are usually good about allowing use of their areas providing you clean up.

Butterfly Crafts

I just had a birthday party for my son, we made butterfly's out of a coffee filter.

Materials
coffee filter
pipe cleaners
spray bottle
magnets

Have the children color the coffee filter (the more color the better).  When they are finished spray water on the entire filter (this gives a tied dyed look) let it dry.  Pinch together in the middle wrap a pipe cleaner around it turn the top of the cleaner for the antenna's and put a magnet on the back. They all had a great time making them and my son is still making them. You would also tie a clothes pin to it with pipe cleaner then add the magnet and it could hold messages on your fridge.

Purse Party

Young girls like to do “purse parties”.

  • purchase several cloth purses.  They should be small, little girl sized, and made of plain cloth.
  • Put out fabric paints and let the girls decorate their own purses.
  • Try to find some glittery paint or sequins that can be added.

Kids love it !

Karaoke Contest

We had a karaoke idol contest and invited some neighbors to be the judges.

What great fun and laughter the kids had and of course great singing.

The judges held score cards that we made with construction paper and marked each child accordingly.

Even the young boys in the neighborhood took part!

Bob the Builder

For my son's 2nd birthday, we had a Bob-the-Builder themed party and I bought a bunch of unfinished birdhouses from the crafts store and set up a large table with paints and brushes.

I told all the children that before they came to the party, Bob the Builder stopped by and dropped off all the birdhouses that he made for them to paint. When they were finished, that became their party favor. It worked so well even my son believed it.
