Straw Games

1. Pick up Straws (Competitive)

Empty a box of straws in a pile on the table or on the floor.
Take turns picking up a straw without moving any other straws.
You get to keep all the straws you pick up.

Variations

assign points to different colored straws making them more valuable.
If a person successfully picks up a straw, he or she gets another turn.

2. Cooperative Pick Up Straws

Work together to clear the 'sticks' from a pathway without disturbing the other sticks. Each person takes a turn trying to remove a 'stick' without touching or moving any of the other 'sticks'.

3. Standing Straws

Using only straws, see who can make the highest structure that will stand by itself for at least 1 minutes. Agree how long the players will have to work on the structure (e.g. 5 minutes).

Variations

build a structure that could support a cereal bowl or an egg.
add some extra items (e.g. address labels, paperclips, one pencil, ...) and see who can make the tallest structure.
